¾¨Ó㴫ý is encouraging students to make connections with members of the local region through a new community engagement initiative, Beyond the Quad.
The Beyond the Quad art series, launching Thursday, Oct. 5, will provide three arts-based opportunities for students to engage with New Wilmington and its residents this semester.
“¾¨Ó㴫ý’s new ‘Beyond the Quad’ art series is an opportunity for students to connect with the community through the arts,” said Dr. Helen Boylan of ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Office of Professional Development and Community Engagement. “We are excited for students to get off campus, share their talents and feel part of the New Wilmington area community.”
The ¾¨Ó㴫ý School of Music will host the first event, a concert performed by the College’s Trumpet Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. The event will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the New Wilmington Borough Park Amphitheater.
The Titan Terror Showcase—a screening and award ceremony for entries to the ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Titan Terror Project short film competition—will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the New Wilmington Borough Park Amphitheater.
The Environmental Art in the Community: Art Walk and Creative Writing Reading will take place throughout the New Wilmington community from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. The event will showcase artwork created by local college and high school students that is related to the environment. ¾¨Ó㴫ý art instructor John Petruzzi will lead an art walk and students in Dr. Robert Craven’s WRI 357 class will read pieces of creative writing.
Beyond the Quad is supported by ¾¨Ó㴫ý alumni Bob and Debby Caleskie Jewell, both 1980 graduates, and coordinated by the Center for Professional Development and Community Engagement at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.
