About Us

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Department of Public Safety actively supports the institution's educational and developmental mission by delivering essential safety, security, and emergency management planning and response services to the campus community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To maintain a secure environment, the department executes a wide range of critical functions, including routine security patrols, physical security management such as locking and unlocking buildings, and conducting thorough safety and security inspections. In addition to proactive fire safety and prevention measures, the team manages emergency management planning, incident response, investigations, and law enforcement coordination, while also administering emergency messaging to the campus when necessary. Furthermore, the department provides vital community support services such as basic first aid and CPR, special event security, parking enforcement, traffic control, and specialized student medical and safety transport. Dedicated to proactive education, the Department of Public Safety also facilitates campus-wide training on various public safety and security topics to ensure a well-prepared and resilient college community.

The Department of Public Safety is composed of a dedicated professional team comprising a Director, a Deputy Director, an Administrative Assistant, and a highly trained contingent of Public Safety Officers. Leading the department is a director who possesses a comprehensive background in public safety, with extensive training and experience spanning law enforcement, emergency management, and SWAT operations. Furthermore, the Director is a certified national and international instructor specializing in the protection of critical national infrastructure. Supporting this leadership is the Deputy Director, who brings a vast wealth of knowledge in both law enforcement and emergency management to the department's operations. Ensuring a high standard of community safety and readiness, all officers within the department are rigorously trained in patrol techniques, active shooter response, and essential lifesaving interventions, including First Aid, CPR, AED administration, and the use of NARCAN.

The Department of Public Safety plays an integral role in the institution's overarching campus safety and security mission, utilizing a proactive philosophy that believes strongly in a community-oriented approach. By fostering collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, and staff, the department works continuously to cultivate a secure and supportive educational environment. For the convenience of the campus community and to ensure accessible service, the Public Safety Department headquarters is centrally located in room 176 of the McKelvey Campus Center.
