Weekly carillon concerts return to ¾¨Ó㴫ý this summer

The 2025 Carillon Summer Concert Series at ¾¨Ó㴫ý will feature four carillonneurs who will perform on the College’s 42-bell Duff-Armington Memorial Carillon on select Friday afternoons in July and August.

SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOW: Emma Maloberti ’26

Rising senior Emma Maloberti is one of six students selected for the ninth consecutive Summer Research Fellowship at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. The criminal justice and psychology double major from Cranberry Township, Pa., is researching “Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adolescent Behavior” with ¾¨Ó㴫ý professors Dr. Shannon Smithey, political science, and Dr. Jamie Chapman, criminal justice studies.

Students partner with Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition to evaluate mine drainage treatment system

Eleven students from ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Environmental Analysis course teamed up with the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition (SRWC) during the spring 2025 semester to assess the effectiveness of a passive treatment system for abandoned mine drainage (AMD) at the Erico Bridge site.

Strathgheny Scottish fiddling concerts set for July 7 & 11

¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Strathgheny School of Scottish Fiddling will host two public concerts on Monday, July 7, and Friday, July 11, at the New Wilmington Borough Amphitheater located in the New Wilmington Borough Park off of Beechwood Avenue in New Wilmington, Pa.

¾¨Ó㴫ý rising senior Shannon Witkouski is one of just six students selected for the College’s prestigious Summer Research Fellowship—now in its ninth consecutive year. A double major in music education and performance from Beaver, Pa., Witkouski is exploring the intersection of technology and the arts in her research project, “AI-Assisted Composition for Bands and Orchestra: Enhancing or Replacing Creativity?” under the mentorship of Dr. Dan Perttu, professor of music.

Finding power in words: Stephan Gibson’s award-winning debut on the speech and debate stage

For ¾¨Ó㴫ý first-year student Stephan Gibson, joining the Speech and Debate Society was a leap into the unknown. The strategic communication and social media major from New Castle, Pa., had never competed in speech or debate before arriving on campus. His only experience with public speaking came from performing in his high school theater program and occasionally teaching at his local church.
