Senior Sydney Rensel ’25 was one of 10 students granted a 2024 Summer Research Fellowship at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. Rensel, an English major from Evans City, Pa., spent her summer months working on her project, “Hidden Casualties of War: How Anti-War Novels Highlight the Unseen Casualties of War.” She conducted her research with guidance from Dr. Robert Craven ’13, assistant professor of English. Rensel is president of the English honors society Sigma Tau Delta and is a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She is also active in Book Club and the Sexuality and Gender Alliance club (SAGA) on campus.

Growing up, Dr. Joselyn Parker '07 dreamed of being a medical doctor. While at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, she began to uncover her true passion through the experiences she received as the first Diversity Chair for WC's Student Government Association. Joselyn's involvement with the Black Student Union and other campus organizations also helped guide her path from studying biology to pursuing a career focused on mentoring and empowering youth, leading her to pursue a variation of her dream to become a doctor. Dr. Parker received her Doctorate of Philosophy in 2024.
Tell us about your career path since graduating from WC.
Since graduating from ¾¨Ó㴫ý, I have dedicated my career to youth development within the non-profit sector. I began by leading initiatives focused on character development, educational success, and social and emotional wellness. Concurrently, I pursued and completed my Master’s in Education at Youngstown State University. My career progressed from program management to program director positions, eventually leading to executive director responsibilities.

Junior Chloe Smith ’26 was one of 10 students granted a 2024 Summer Research Fellowship at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. Smith, an honors student and English major from Brookville, Pa., spent her summer months researching “Contrasting Quality in Contemporary Romance Novels: A Study of Tropes, Sex Scenes, and Social Media Influence” with the help of her mentor, Dr. Kristianne Kalata, professor of English. Smith is the academics affairs chairperson for the Student Government Association and the philanthropy chair for Phi Mu at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. She also works as an orientation leader and peer tutor on campus.
