¾¨Ó㴫ý School of Music is hosting their annual Woodwind Day on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The day-long event is open to woodwind musicians of all ages and skill levels.
The School of Music will welcome guest artist and flutist Kasumi Leonard. A former member of the United States Army Field Band, Leonard has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Omaha Symphony and is currently acting second flute/piccolo with the Sarasota Opera.
Throughout the day, participants will attend master classes and performances given by the guest artist and ¾¨Ó㴫ý woodwind faculty members. Additionally, attendees will participate in a group warm-up and woodwind ensemble reading session led by Aaron Himes, director of bands. Dr. Daniel Perttu, bassoonist and chair of ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s School of Music, will also lead an educational clinic.
Leonard will present a recital of solo flute music at 10 a.m. An afternoon recital will be held at 3 p.m. and will feature ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty members Alyssa Pysola, flute; Kim Winfield, oboe; Dr. James Flowers, saxophone; and Dr. Nancy DeSalvo, piano. Both recitals will be held in Orr Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
