¾¨Ó㴫ý will recognize the sacrifices made by U.S. military service personnel in Operation Enduring Freed and Operation Iraqi Freedom by creating the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Patriots' Scholarship Program.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Patriots' Scholarship Program will provide full tuition for a four-year undergraduate degree at ¾¨Ó㴫ý for the dependent children of U.S. military personnel who were killed in action in Afghanistan or Iraq. The current value of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Patriots' Scholarship is $92,880 per recipient ($23,220 per year) and the total value of the scholarship will change based on changes in ¾¨Ó㴫ý's undergraduate tuition.

"State Senator Bob Robbins deserves credit for making us aware of a similar scholarship program at Widener University. Widener was encouraging other colleges to help military families," according to ¾¨Ó㴫ý President R. Thomas Williamson. "¾¨Ó㴫ý wanted to reach out to the children whose parents have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country free. The Board of Trustees approved the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Patriots Scholarship Program last weekend."

"Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Senate adopted a resolution I introduced recognizing Widener University for its efforts," said Sen.Robbins. "Today, I commend ¾¨Ó㴫ý for stepping up and
adopting the Patriots' scholarship program to benefit children of soldiers killed in combat. This scholarship underscores ¾¨Ó㴫ý's commitment to our troops and their families."

¾¨Ó㴫ý will offer up to two Patriots' Scholarships concurrently and recipients must meet ¾¨Ó㴫ý's admission requirements and maintain good academic standing.

The College intends to establish an endowment fund for the Patriots' Scholarship program. "Donors have come forward to express interest at this early stage and contributions are needed and welcomed," Williamson said.

¾¨Ó㴫ý President Tom Williamson and Sen. Bob Robbins announce the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Patriots' Scholarship in front of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Veterans Memorial. The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Veterans Memorial, donated by the class of 1949 and located on the quad of the campus, features a memorial, flag pole, and stone benches representing each branch of the armed services.
