Art Professor Participates in Ceramic Workshop

Posted on Thursday, December 14, 2006

Kathy Koop, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of art, recently presented a slide lecture of her work and participated in a two-day ceramic workshop at Manhattonville College in Purchase, NY.

"In these workshops, the presenters create the work they are known for and do a lot of talking about their process and their philosophy of creativity," Koop said. "Then they give a slide presentation of the development of their work over the course of their career. Dr. Paul Soldner, the person with whom I was working, is one of the most internationally famous' contemporary ceramic artists alive and a longtime personal friend. We are a team, working side by side to create pieces.

"These workshops are like a teaching mechanism, where the audience can learn from the demonstrators through open dialogue. The demonstrations are always rewarding, in that they provide a way to gain ceramic information and to share ideas."

Koop, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 1973, earned her undergraduate degree and master's from Indiana University.
