Michael Romeo, a ¾¨Ó㴫ý senior biology major, received an undergraduate research grant from ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
His research, "Teratogenic Effects of Ethylene Glycol and 5-methyl-1H-benzotriazole on Zebrafish Central Nervous System Development," was accepted for presentation at the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology 2009 annual meeting Jan. 3-7 in Boston.
Romeo's faculty adviser is Dr. Marosh Furimsky, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of biology.
Romeo is a son of David and Devina Romeo of Bessemer and a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.
"An important component of the work of the Drinko Center is to enhance opportunities for undergraduate research," said Dr. Terri Lenox, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of computer science and co-director of the Drinko Center. "The Undergraduate Research Initiative provides funding for students to conduct research and to present their research at regional and national conferences."
All grant recipients have the opportunity to participate in ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Undergraduate Research Symposium in April.
