¾¨Ó㴫ý's Mathematics and Computer Science Department held its annual awards banquet and Kappa Mu Epsilon induction March 25 in the Witherspoon Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.
The induction ceremony for Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, was led by the organization's officers and Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics and the group's adviser. The inductees are: Brendan Banks, Jeremy Booher, Emily Dolsak, Coty Hainsey, Erin Keck, Richard Ligo, and Robert Rhodes.
Kappa Mu Epsilon officers are: April Scudere, president; Heather McQuiston, vice president; Lauren Graeser, secretary; Stephen Rossi, treasurer; and Sarah Woodward, publicity chair.
Opening comments were given by Dr. Carolyn Cuff, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and a 1978 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate.
Graduating seniors were recognized and departmental awards and scholarships presented following dinner. Assisting Cuff in the presentations were ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty James Anthony, visiting lecturer of mathematics; Dr. John Bonomo, associate professor of computer science; Fontes-Merz; Dr. David Offner, assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Pamela Richardson, assistant professor of mathematics; and Dr. David Shaffer, associate professor of computer science.
Dr. Warren Hickman, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics emeritus, was an honored guest. The creation of an endowed scholarship in his name was announced by ¾¨Ó㴫ý alumni Craig Dimon and David Sarver.
Other special guests included ¾¨Ó㴫ý professors of mathematics emeriti Dr. Barbara Faires and J. Miller Peck; Paul Wallace, ¾¨Ó㴫ý director of information systems; and members of Hickman's family.
