The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Bleasby Colloquia continues Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the McKelvey Campus Center Theater with Dr. Suzanne Prestien, assistant professor of English and Public Relations, exploring gods of rock music..
"I will be presenting a paper titled "It's Better to Burn Out than It is to Rust: Rock n' Roll Biopics and the Making of Modern Mythology,'" Prestien said. "It's based my research for my Ph.D. I will discuss how rock n' roll stars like Jim Morrison, Ritchie Valens, and Prince, are depicted in film biographies, and have become the gods' of our modern mythology."
This George Bleasby Colloquia is a series of literary events in honor of Dr. Bleasby, who chaired the Department of English at ¾¨Ó㴫ý from 1954-75.
Prestien, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 1997, earned her undergraduate degree from Kent State University, her master's from the University of Toledo, and her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
