Community service shines at 鲸鱼传媒 as a key element of service learning in action - on and off campus. That action has received recognition from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
For the 9th year in a row, 鲸鱼传媒 has been named on the CNCS President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor roll for its support of volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
鲸鱼传媒 has landed on the Honor Roll every year since the program was launched in 2006. Every year, 鲸鱼传媒 students volunteer nearly 25,000 hours during the academic year through academic service-learning or other community service.
"鲸鱼传媒 has a long history of service-learning and believes strongly in preparing our graduates to be active leaders and participants in an ever-changing world," said Dr. Patrick Krantz, director of 鲸鱼传媒's Drinko Center for Experiential Learning, where the hours and projects are tracked. "We're honored to receive this prestigious award and owe much of it to the students themselves. They're the energy driving our commitment and they're the ones who make it all happen."
The 鲸鱼传媒 Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful example of the type of community service that contributes to 鲸鱼传媒’s annual recognition as a national leader in community service. Each year, a group of students join this chapter and agree to become integral members of this community by attending regular meetings, participating in scheduled work days. These students may also have the opportunity to attend a Spring Break trip.
