¾¨Ó㴫ý will host its 164th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on the Weisel Senior Terrace of Old Main, preceded by a baccalaureate service at 10¬ a.m. in Orr Auditorium. Over 250 students are expected to earn degrees at this year’s ceremony.
“We are delighted to celebrate this milestone in the lives of our students,” says ¾¨Ó㴫ý President Dr. Kathy B. Richardson.
Deborah Platt Majoras, chief legal officer and secretary for the Proctor & Gamble Company, will deliver the commencement address. Majoras is currently serving her final year as the chair of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Board of Trustees. She graduated from ¾¨Ó㴫ý in 1985 and completed her juris doctorate from the University of Virginia in 1989. Prior to joining Proctor & Gamble, she served as chair of the Federal Trade Commission (2004-2008), the principal deputy assistant attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division (2001-2003), and partner at Jones Day (1991-2001).
Seniors Megan Douds and Christian Na were chosen by their classmates to give remarks during commencement. Megan Douds, a senior psychology major, is a daughter of William and Dawn Douds and a graduate of Bethel Park High School. Christian Na, a senior communication studies major, is a son of Kang-Yup and Amy Na and a graduate of Neshannock High School.
The baccalaureate message will be delivered by the Rev. Matthew Schultz, head pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, Alaska. Schultz graduated from ¾¨Ó㴫ý in 1995 with a B.A. in art, and later attended Princeton Theological Seminary.
The ceremonies will be broadcasted live on , Armstrong (channel 72 in New Wilmington and channel 204 in Grove City), and Comcast (Channel 183 in New Castle). Stay connected on social media by using and searching #WCGRAD18. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in Orr Auditorium.
