NEW WILMINGTON, PA – Three ¾¨Ó㴫ý student-produced pieces have received recognition from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) as part of the BEA On-Location 2018 Super-Regional Conference that will be held Oct. 18-20 at the University of Houston.
The following pieces earned BEA On-Location Creative Competition awards that will be presented at the 2018 conference:
“Coaches Cope with Strict NCAA Social Media Rules” by Tyler Helvin earned a Student News Award of Excellence in the news competition category. Helvin’s news video features Jim Dafler, athletic director at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, and Patrick Geiger, men’s head lacrosse coach, and looks at how they use social media in compliance with NCAA rules. Helvin, a senior broadcasting and media production major, is a 2015 graduate of Carlisle High School and the son of Michelle Gutshall of Meyerstown, Pa.
“The Theatre ¾¨Ó㴫ý Tin Man Who Needed a Heart” by Ali Srour also earned a Student News Award of Excellence in the news competition category. Srour’s piece tells the story of Jamie Alcroft when he was a sophomore at ¾¨Ó㴫ý in 1969. See the award-winning piece here:
Srour, a sophomore theatre major, is a 2016 graduate of Grove City High School and son of Barbara Srour of Grove City.
“Ghost Witch – Mary Black” by Troy Jackson earned the Student Best of Show Award in the documentary category. Jackson’s production follows a Western Pennsylvania ghost story that claims a 19th century witch still haunts communities around New Castle, Pa. See the award-winning piece here:
Jackson is a 2018 graduate of ¾¨Ó㴫ý and the son of Ricky and Lynne Jackson of Union City, Pa.
