NEW WILMINGTON, PA – ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Dr. Angela Lahr, associate professor of history, and Dr. Thomas Oberst, associate professor of physics, will continue the 2019 Titan Talk series with “The World and You & What in the World is Out There?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Dietz Sullivan Lecture Hall on ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s campus.
Dr. Lahr will present “The World and You: What We Can Learn from the Past” and discuss what U.S. history can teach us and how it can help us find our place in the world. She will highlight examples of individuals who have reflected on these questions in profound and far-reaching ways.
Dr. Oberst, who has been instrumental in the discovery of 20 exoplanets over the past five years, will discuss “What in the World is Out There? Searching for Planets Beyond our Solar System.” Oberst will highlight these new worlds and explain his discovery process and his continued exploration.
Lahr, who joined the ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty in 2013, earned her undergraduate degree in history from the University of Evansville and her master’s and Ph.D. in history from Northern Illinois University. She teaches courses in U.S. history and Japanese history and her research interests include American religious history, the Cold War and women’s history.
Oberst, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2008, earned undergraduate degrees in physics and mathematics from Duquesne University and his master’s and Ph.D. in astrophysics from Cornell University. He teaches courses in physics and astronomy at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, where he also directs the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Planetarium.
Established in the fall of 2018, ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s Titan Talk is a three-part series featuring ¾¨Ó㴫ý scholars and professionals and aimed at helping human beings develop their best selves and live lives with a mindful purpose.
