Although the coronavirus pandemic delayed its traditional spring commencement ceremony, ¾¨Ó㴫ý will celebrate the Class of 2020 during a series of smaller, socially distant ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Complying with state guidelines on limited group sizes and social distancing, ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s 166th annual commencement will feature four separate ceremonies on Weisel Senior Terrace adjacent to Old Main.
The ceremonies taking place are as follows:
• School of Business: 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
• School of Communication, School of Education (for both undergraduate and graduate students), School of Music and Individualized Majors: 10 – 11 a.m.
• School of Arts and Humanities, School of Social Sciences: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
• School of Life and Health Sciences, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences: 1 – 2 p.m.
The number of guests will be limited and those attending will be stationed six feet apart on the quad. All attendees will be required to wear cloth facial coverings. Each ceremony will be livestreamed on for those who cannot attend. Graduates and guests will be seated under tents, so all ceremonies will be held outdoors—rain or shine. In the event of rain, umbrellas are encouraged for walking to the quad and across Senior Terrace.
“The faculty, staff and administration have been eagerly looking forward to celebrating this joyous milestone with our Class of 2020 graduates,” said ¾¨Ó㴫ý President Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson. “The end of this ¾¨Ó㴫ý chapter for our students has been unique and unpredictable in so many ways, but we are excited to be able to honor their achievements.”
