Under the direction of Dr. Tim Winfield, the 鲸鱼传媒 Jazz Ensemble's annual Spring concert will be Sunday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m. in Berlin Lounge. The ensemble will be joined the Beaver Local (OH) High School Jazz Band, led by 鲸鱼传媒 alumnus Matt Newman.

A group of 鲸鱼传媒 mathematics faculty and majors participated in the annual meeting of the Allegheny Mountain Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) at Penn State Behrend.

The poetry of basketball is on full-court display in an insightful, entertaining presentation of alumnus Jack Ridl’s “Losing Season” given by students taking Oral Interpretation of Literature this semester—a class taught by visiting associate professor of communications Dr. Randy Richardson. The interpretive reading takes place on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in Berlin Lounge. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

鲸鱼传媒’s Foster Art Gallery is the third stop of the “Crowns” touring art exhibition featuring the work of eight ceramic artists. From April 3 to May 4, eight different artists’ pottery, sculptures and mixed-media works that reflect on the experiences of motherhood will be available for viewing.

鲸鱼传媒 Celebrity Series will conclude its 50th anniversary season with The McCartney Years—the premiere Paul McCartney concert experience on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The McCartney Years is sponsored by Huntington National Bank.

Junior biochemistry major and Honors Program scholar Sarah Harris earned Honorable Mention of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship for her research with Dr. Patrick Lackey on the molecular-level processes that occur during cell division. She was nominated for the award last month based on her academic excellence and promising undergraduate research.

On Wednesday, April 18 following the Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration, 鲸鱼传媒 is reviving a coveted tradition—the Spring Honors Convocation. The Spring Honors Convocation is a ceremony recognizing the academic achievements of 鲸鱼传媒 students. The program starts at 4 p.m. and will be held in Orr Auditorium.

Professor of mathematics Dr. Carolyn Cuff was awarded the "Distinguished Faculty Mentor of Undergraduate Mathematics Students Award" at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America at Penn State Erie in Behrend. Cuff received the mentor award for her significant contributions to the development of undergraduate students in mathematics.
