Birding at the 鲸鱼传媒 Field Station this past Tuesday morning was filled with dark rain clouds and howling winds. 鲸鱼传媒 is part of a national non-profit that has given away 115 million books to 100,000 schools and programs in the past 21 years. The 鲸鱼传媒 chapter won a contest that brought trucks loaded with 40,000 new books to campus. Those books went to Lawrence and Mercer County public school teachers to give to their students. The free book giveaway targets children in lower income homes where families might not be able to afford new books. The mission is to foster a love for reading by empowering children with a new book of their very own.
More than 380 teachers in Mercer and Lawrence counties signed up for the giveaway. They could take up to 100 books back to their classrooms and schools to pass on to their students.
