English Professor to Speak at Bleasby Colloquium

Three groups came on April 21 to plant trees at the Field Station nine days ahead of National Arbor Day. Two groups of 33 were from Wilmington Elementary School on a field day and over 50 children and parents were from ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Preschool celebrating family night.

Accurately Located Earthquakes and Nuclear Discrimination" at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Phillips Lecture Hall in the Hoyt Science Resources Center. Brazier is the associate professor of mathematics and geology and the interim associate dean for faculty and research for University College, Penn State University.

¾¨Ó㴫ý Music Faculty Professor to Give Flute Recital May 1

Kathleen Schott, adjunct music faculty member at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will give a flute recital Saturday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"I will be performing works by Gaubert, Baker, Gieseking, and Borne," Schott said.  "Nancy DeSalvo (assistant professor of music at Westminter) will be accompanying me."

Speaker to Discuss Research on Inner City Youth Risk Factors

Dr. Rolf Loeber, professor of psychiatry at the Pittsburgh School of Medicine, will speak about his research on inner city youth risk factors Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 4:30 p.m. in Phillips Lecture Hall located in the Hoyt Science Resources Center of ¾¨Ó㴫ý.

Loeber's presentation, "New Findings on the Causes of Violence and Homicide," will review the 15-year study conducted with his wife, Magda Stouthamer-Loeber.  The study tracks more than 1,500 inner city boys to examine risk factors influencing the development of antisocial and delinquent behavior from childhood to early adulthood.  The couple began "The Pittsburgh Girls Study" in 1999, and is currently tracking more than 2,400 girls to examine delinquency, depression, and substance abuse over time.  Loeber and his wife co-founded and co-direct the Pitt Department of Psychiatry's Life History Studies Program. 

He also holds appointments in the Department of Epidemiology in the Graduate School of Public Health.  Loeber received the 2003 Distinguished Contribution Award by the American Psychological Association and was recognized as a Fellow by the American Society of Criminology from the University of Cambridge.  He earned his Ph.D. from Queen's University in Ontario Canada.
