The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) recently awarded ¾¨Ó㴫ý with a nearly $5,000 grant to purchase an integrating sphere and accessories for a Lambda 35 UV-Vis spectrometer used by ¾¨Ó㴫ý's chemistry department.
The second annual New Wilmington Community Arts and Heritage Festival is scheduled Friday-Sunday, Aug. 6-8 at various locations throughout the town and on the ¾¨Ó㴫ý campus.
Ìý"It's hard to believe, but this year the festival has grown both in size and enthusiasm," said New Wilmington Area Chamber of Commerce President Tim Kelly.Ìý "But, there's still time and space available for artists."
ÌýMany of the events such as the opening ceremony, bands, voice performances, juggling and unicycle performances, as well as several types of dance performances will be held on the community stage located in the parking lot of Jameson Health Place. The Shenango on the Green is host to various authors and more musical presentations, while still more musical productions can be heard in the artist's area located near ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Old Main building.Ìý
The festival also features a tour of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Field Station and Nature Trail, and a chance to get up close and personal with human and animal mummies at the Hoyt Science Resources Center. While traveling down Market Street, visitors may catch a glimpse of the 25-mile bike race, hear bag pipers, see a clown do balloon sculpting, and have the opportunity catch a trolley to view the country side.
The event is made possible by the cooperation ofÌý the New Wilmington Area Chamber of Commerce, The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, and ¾¨Ó㴫ý.

Sarah Beth Buzzatto, a senior music major at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will perform a viola recital Saturday, April 2,at 3 p.m in Wallace Memorial Chapel.
Buzzatto will be playing movements from Robert Schumann's "Marchenbilder" (Fairy Tales) and Franz Schubert's "Sonata" (Per Arpeggione and Piano). She will be accompanied by part-time music faculty member Katherine Miller on piano.
Throughout her career at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, Buzzatto has participated in symphonic orchestra, played in the pit orchestra for several opera workshop productions, played in the string chamber ensemble and took part in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Alumni Side by Side concert. She also played in the Titan marching and symphonic bands for three years, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association and Mu Phi Epsilon, a music honor fraternity. Outside of the music department she serves her class and campus as a senator in Student Government Association, where she is a member of the public relations committee, a representative on Student Life and Athletic Council, and member of the College Democrats.
Buzzatto is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Buzzatto of White Oak and a graduate of McKeesport Area High School.

¾¨Ó㴫ý will host the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Leadership Conference Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Almost 300 high school students from Commodore Perry, Lawrence County Vo-Tech, Laurel, Mohawk, Neshannock, Oil City, West Middlesex, and Wilmington School districts are expected to attend.
The conference features two speakers. Senior Regional Director Diane McClune from the Western Pennsylvania American Heart Association will talk about what the association does and will give the students tips on staying heart healthy. Joe Seminara, owner of Pizza Joes, will speak about how he started his business and his experiences as an entrepreneur.
In addition to a business meeting, where new regional officers will be elected, the students will also take part in various business competitions.
"Students who place high enough at this event will be eligible to compete at the Pennsylvania FBLA Leadership Conference in Hershey," said Marsha Karidis, coordinator of this event and one of the advisors for the Mohawk FBLA chapter, along with Kathy Eichenlaub and Margie Shiderly.

Dr. Nancy A. Macky, associate professor of English at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, has been selected to receive the 2001-02 Henderson Lectureship Award.

Dr. Russell Martin, associate professor of history at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will deliver the Bleasby Colloquium, Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in Hoyt Science Resources Center room 166.
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has named ¾¨Ó㴫ý a "Leading School" in its recent study, State of the Campus Environment.
The study indicates that ¾¨Ó㴫ý is among the national leaders in the category of "Leading Schools for Supporting and Evaluating Faculty on Environmental Studies."Ìý This exemplary status requires a school to have programs to support faculty professional development on environmental topics, and formally evaluate or recognize how faculty have integrated environmental topics into their courses.
