Judy Shepard, whose son was killed because he was gay, will speak at ¾¨Ó㴫ý Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.
On Oct. 8, 1998, Judy and Dennis Shepard were awakened in the middle of the night by a telephone call no parents should ever have to receive. Their eldest son, Matthew, was in a coma after having been brutally attacked because he was gay. Matthew died four days later.
Eleven local schools will participate in the Instrumental Adjudication Festival on Wednesday, March 7 from 9 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. at the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Orr Auditorium.

Dr. Helen Boylan, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of chemistry, was a workshop leader for the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference Oct. 13 at Robert Morris University.
Melanie Mathews, a ¾¨Ó㴫ý junior environmental science major, received the Helen R. Ferguson Scholarship from the Bartramian Audubon Society for excellence in environmental science.
¾¨Ó㴫ý students will have the opportunity to meet with alumni in the education field at "Connections in Education Speed Networking" Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.
¾¨Ó㴫ý students in broadcast communications instructor Bradley Weaver's "Video Production" class shared their one-minute mini-movie projects in a lunchtime showcase Nov. 10.

¾¨Ó㴫ý was included in the "Great Schools, Great Prices" list in the U.S. News & World Report's 2011 Best Colleges guide and also ranked in the top ten in Graduation Rate Performance.

Dr. David Goldberg, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of philosophy, presented a paper at the spring meeting of the West Virginia Philosophical Society March 25-26 at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.


¾¨Ó㴫ý students won numerous awards at the Dec. 8 Student Symposium on the Environment. The event was hosted by ¾¨Ó㴫ý and co-sponsored by the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition. Awards were sponsored by ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Department of English and Public Relations will feature three scholars discussing author Elizabeth Bishop at the Bleasby Colloquium Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the McKelvey Campus Center's Mueller Theater. The program is free to the public.
