Melanie Mathews, a ¾¨Ó㴫ý junior environmental science major, received the Helen R. Ferguson Scholarship from the Bartramian Audubon Society for excellence in environmental science.
Mathews is a daughter of Thomas and Carolyn Mathews of Cumberland, Md. She is a graduate of Allegany High School, where she was president of the Ecology Club and a member of the Envirothon Team.
At ¾¨Ó㴫ý, Mathews has served as a residence assistant and as a teacher's assistant in biology labs.
Dr. Shahroukh Mistry, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of biology and Mathews' adviser, said, "Melanie has been an outstanding student at ¾¨Ó㴫ý and richly deserves this honor. It has been a pleasure to be her adviser and to work with her as a student and as a teaching assistant. We thank Helen Ferguson and the Bartramian Audubon Society for their generous support of ¾¨Ó㴫ý students."
