Faculty Forum Concludes Semester at ¾¨Ó㴫ý

Four faculty members of the Religion Department of ¾¨Ó㴫ý will present "Religious Studies: An Interdisciplinary Discipline" as the final Faculty Forum of the fall semester Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11:45 a.m. in Patterson Hall room 311.

Three ¾¨Ó㴫ý English professors, Drs. Elizabeth Ford, Deborah C. Mitchell, and Richard L. Sprow, will present a panel on "The Female Gaze" which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m. in the audio-visual classroom in Freeman Hall.

¾¨Ó㴫ý Offers Five Workshops for Teachers

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Science in Motion Program offers five workshops for area teachers this summer.  All workshops are held in the Hoyt Science Resources Center from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and offer six Act 48 hours for each day of workshop attendance.

The workshop for elementary teachers is scheduled June 9-11.  This workshop will begin with a full day of "Light, Color and Spectro-scopy for Kids" offered by Dr. Herb Retofsky from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh.  Other topics included in this workshop include, rockets, simple machines, the solar system, and metric measurement.  Teachers will also have the opportunity to participate in a stream study with the staff of Jennings Environmental Education Center.

Dr. Bryan Rennie, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of religion, received the Mircea Eliade Centennial Jubilee Medal from Romanian President Traian Basescu while attending the sixth annual international European Congress of the History of Religions.

Two ¾¨Ó㴫ý senior mathematics majors made presentations at the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics held Feb. 8-10 at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

¾¨Ó㴫ý Hosted High School Math Programming Contest

Second place team: Coach Walt Hoffman, Kevin Jeffries, Vincent Kuznicki, Shawn Irwin
Third place team: Nathan Flowers, Anthony Caratelli, coach Jim Cox, Cody Young, Scott Watterson

Eight teams from four area high schools competed in this year's High School Programming Contest Oct. 14. The event was hosted by the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Mathematics and Computer Science Department in conjunction with the Admissions Office.
