Posted on Monday, April 23, 2001

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present a concert Friday, May 4, at the Orr Auditorium, and the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Jazz Ensemble will give a concert Saturday, May 5, at the outdoor Anderson Amphitheater. Both concerts are under the direction of R. Tad Greig, and are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Forty musicians who make up the Wind Ensemble will perform such numbers as Persichett's challenging and technical work, Divertimento for Band, and Reed's wonderful rhythmic number, Hounds of Spring.

The 74 musicians who make up the Symphonic Band will play Williams's classic piece, English Folk Song Suite, the hauntingly melodic work of Chance, Incantation and Dance, Ticheli's recent composition of An American Elegy, written as a healing piece for the tragedy at Columbine High School.

Friday's concert also includes a performance of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Percussion Ensemble, and a woodwind and piano trio, under the direction of percussion instructor Bret Deitz.

The music continues Saturday with the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Jazz Ensemble featuring classics such as Stolen Moments, Full Count, trombone feature Slide Show, and many more. In case of cold or raining weather, this concert will move into the Walton-Mayne Student Union lounge area.

Both concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Department of Music at (724) 946-7270.
