Raymond H. Ocock, professor of music emeritus at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, was recently recognized as the newest honorary member of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM).
Ocock was a charter member of the Pittsburgh PAM Chapter, serving as one of its first presidents. He has also served as dean of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and for many years, taught annually in Italy.
Ocock has been a member of PAM for over 40 years. "I was impressed with it from its beginnings," said Ocock. "There was an excitement about belonging to an organization which had such strong ideals, with such competent leadership, and the resulting successes."
PAM further honored Ocock by setting up the Ray Ocock Scholarship, which awards tuition scholarship for one person to attend the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Conference on Worship and Music. Ocock was the first director of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Conference on Worship and Music, and was involved in the continued growth and success of succeeding ¾¨Ó㴫ý Conferences.
Ocock graduated from ¾¨Ó㴫ý in 1950, and taught at the College from 1956-93. He also served as ¾¨Ó㴫ý's organist and carillonneur. He earned master's degrees from Union Theological Seminary, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
