Dr. Timothy W. Schenz, a 1968 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate, recently won the Outstanding Researcher Award from Abbott Laboratories, and donated his $5,000 prize to the H. Dewey DeWitt Scholarship Fund in memory of ¾¨Ó㴫ý Professor Emeritus Percy Warrick.
Schenz, who is currently a research scientist with Abbott Laboratories, Ross Products Division, heads the physical chemistry research area which makes nutritional products for infants and adults such as Similac and Ensure. His wife, Ann Filer Schenz, is a 1967 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate, and is the section head of the Flavor Technology Group of the same laboratory in Columbus, Ohio.
"The scholarship fund that Dr. Schenz selected awards students for excellent performance in chemistry," said ¾¨Ó㴫ý President R. Thomas Williamson. "We greatly appreciate his channeling this award to the benefit of ¾¨Ó㴫ý students who are striving toward excellence in his chosen field."
"It's always nice to be remembered by those who have graduated, and to get an update on how our graduates are doing," said Dr. Timothy T. Wooster, associate professor of chemistry and chair of the department. "I am in my eighth year at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, and am just beginning to realize the heritage of this institution and department."
The H. Dewey DeWitt Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 in honor of Professor Emeritus H. Dewey DeWitt, who taught chemistry at ¾¨Ó㴫ý from 1956-93
