¾¨Ó㴫ý English Professor Has Book Published

Posted on Thursday, January 16, 2003

Dr. David Swerdlow, associate professor of English at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, recently had his book of poetry, Small Holes in the Universe, published by WordTech Editions.

The collection includes "Living on Angel Ridge," a poem which was recognized as the best poem of 1999 by the Rose Lefcowitz Prize for Poetry.

"This poem mediates on some of the primary themes of our lives: solitude, pain, and beauty," said Swerdlow.

"What a great tenderness these poems have toward the richly-surfaced world we encounter here," said Wayne Dodd. "From familiar scenes of America, to the internalized exoticism of Peru and Mexico, the sharp particularity of life is recalled, celebrated, wondered at. With these searching lyrics, David Swerdlow again and again investigates to metaphoric dimensions of life on earth."

Swerdlow, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 1990, specializes in poetry, and comparative and contemporary literature. He was a Fulbright professor of American Literature in Peru, and a Fellow for the National Endowment of the Humanities. Swerdlow earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, and his master's and Ph.D. from Ohio University.

The book is available at the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Bookstore or online at www.wordtechweb.com. For more information, contact Swerdlow at (724) 946-7345 or e-mail dswerdlw@westminster.edu
