¾¨Ó㴫ý to Celebrate Martin Luther King Day

Gospel music highlights the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Martin Luther King Day Celebration Monday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

¾¨Ó㴫ý Gospel Choir, under the direction of Gordon Austin, and Redeemed, Everlasting, Anointed, Lives or R.E.A.L. (as they are locally known) will perform during the program.

The program opens with the Rev. Steve Allen, ¾¨Ó㴫ý chaplain, and an invocation by Keturah Laney, chapel assistant. The scripture will be read by Jamie Carter, freshman speech communication major from McDonald, and a welcome by ¾¨Ó㴫ý President R. Thomas Williamson.

Pam Stennis, junior public relations major from Youngstown, Ohio and president of ¾¨Ó㴫ý Black Student Union, will present "The History and Movement of Gospel Music." Dr. David Swerdlow, associate professor of English, will read excerpts from a 1948 speech on the purpose of education, and after several numbers from the choirs, the Rev. Jeannette Hooks, diversity coordinator, will offer a prayer for unity.
