"The Four Seasons" theme of the event included fun activities depicting the seasons. Those activities included making a family tree to celebrate fall, snow-ball relay races to celebrate winter, planting seeds to celebrate spring, and enjoying a summer picnic to celebrate summer.
The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Associate for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the observation is to focus on the rights and needs of young children.
"It's a celebration of young children, and those who help children make the most of their opportunities in the early years," said Diana Reed, head preschool teacher at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. "It's also a time to encourage others to join in giving all young children a great start. The Week of the Young Child is a national celebration, but its strength comes from hundreds of local programs in communities like ours."
In celebration of this nationally acclaimed week, the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Preschool Lab will have other special mini-events such as inviting President Tom Williamson as guest reader in the classroom. The children will also display their artwork in the New Wilmington Post Office and Borough Building.
"Parents will receive flyers during April about special programs around the Pittsburgh area," continued Reed. "Lawrence county daycare providers will be presenting a tent fair at the Lawrence Village Plaza May 10."
