The new officers are: Christine Atkins, president; Russ Mills, vice president; Ian Durham secretary; Kristen Kulick, treasurer; Erin Halpin, public relations cabinet member; Amanda Moore, finance cabinet member; Greg Smith, special events cabinet member; Jess Rummel, judicial cabinet member and Ian Brown, academics cabinet member.
"My slate and I would like to thank all the students, administration, faculty and staff for their support and encouragement throughout our campaign," said Atkins. "We have worked hard on our campaign for the past four months, asking students their opinions through personal contact and e-mail surveys, and we plan to continue this practice."
This year the students had another choice about the election -- vote by e-mail or vote by paper ballot using their student identification cards.
The Student Government Association purchased a personal digital assistant (PDA) to help with the voting. This electronic devise allowed students to vote via e-mail or to swipe their Titan cards when they voted by paper ballot. This new system makes it faster and easier for students to vote, and eliminates the possibility of voting more than once. Final tallies are also quicker.
Karen Waldo, Titan Card and student insurance clerk, and Cheri Bibler, assistant coordinator administrative systems, teamed up to modify the PDA for the elections.
"This unit has future possibilities because it's mobile and battery operated," said Waldo. "We could use it at football games and other sporting events."
