¾¨Ó㴫ý looks to defend its title when it hosts the sixth annual East Central Colleges (ECC) Mathematics Competition Saturday, March 29 at 10 a.m., at the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

The competition includes teams of three or four students from all nine ECC colleges: Bethany, Heidelberg, Hiram, Marietta, Mount Union, Muskingum, Otterbein, West Virginia Wesleyan, and ¾¨Ó㴫ý.  ¾¨Ó㴫ý took first place last year.

The day will begin with registration and a light breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and the competition runs from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., followed by a pizza lunch.  The exam is written and graded at Concordia College of Minnesota specifically for this contest.  The test consists of 10 problems ranging from a problem or two that nearly everyone will probably solve, to a couple which are of Putnam level and are likely to separate out the most exceptional students.

Prizes include $50 for each first place team member, $30 for each second place team member, and $20 for each third place team member.

¾¨Ó㴫ý's 2003 team includes:
Alan Higby, a senior computer science and mathematics major, is a son Douglas and Linda Higby, 626 Walnut St., Meadville, and a graduate of Meadville Area High School.
Joseph Katich, a senior physics major, is a son of Ronald and Kathleen Katich, 153Terrace Dr., New Castle, and a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.
Bradley Patton, a junior computer science and mathematics major, is of Thomas and Karen Patton, 232 Patton Lane, Edinburg, and a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.
