The program features musical numbers such as the "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing" sung by Lindsey, Jennifer, and Jessica Austin under the baton of their father Gordon Austin, director of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Gospel Choir. The Gospel Choir will perform "Close to Thee," "We Are One," and "We Shall Overcome."
Omadee Curry, a junior mathematics major and president of the Black Student Union, will introduce Dr. Betsy Ford, associate professor of English at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, who will speak on the "History of the Movement."
Rev. Jeannette Hooks, diversity coordinator at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will introduce keynote speaker and civil rights activist Rev. Alfonse Allen. Allen, a graduate of Sharon High School, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Africana Studies and psychology and his master's from the Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio. He is currently the pastor at Bethel AME Church in Scranton, and dean at the Pittsburgh AME Conference Minister's Institute.
Offering prayer and call to worship are Keturah Laney, chapel assistant, and Rev. Steve Allen, ¾¨Ó㴫ý Chaplin. Dr. Darwin Huey, chair of the education department, will read the scripture, while President R. Thomas Williamson will give the welcome address.
