¾¨Ó㴫ý Adds Climbing Wall to Field House Complex

Posted on Tuesday, January 23, 2007

¾¨Ó㴫ý recently dedicated a climbing wall that was added to the intramural gym of the Memorial Field House.

"The wall is 28 feet high and 22 feet wide and provides enough room for five different climbing routes of various degrees of difficulty," said Laura Nystrom, director of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Titan Traverse program. "Our hope is to use this climbing wall as an opportunity for ¾¨Ó㴫ý's campus to challenge our perspectives, to get people out of their comfort zones, and to provide an invaluable resource to athletics, to academic classes, and to organizations."

The wall was designed by Redpoint Aventures and the Titan Traverse staff. The first public opening is Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 7-10 p.m. It will reopen Thursday, Feb. 1 from 8-10 p.m. and again Saturday, Feb. 3, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Titan Traverse is ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Adventure Education program, and includes a ropes course facility. An atmosphere of fun and play combined with a depth of learning about oneself and others in the context of a group fosters a unique environment known as Titan Traverse. Students, faculty, and administration from many diverse groups at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, as well as participants from surrounding communities, have experienced learning in a new light as a result of their involvement.
