Dr. Christopher Kilmartin, college professor, author, stand-up comedian, actor, playwright, consultant, and professional psychologist, will present Crimes Against Nature at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. in the Berlin Student Lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center.
Kilmartin is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, Va., and 2006-2007 Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Gender Studies at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria. He is the author of several scholarly works including: The Masculine Self; The Pain Behind the Mask: Overcoming Masculine Depression with co-author John Lynch; and Sexual Assault in Context: Teaching College Men about Gender. He is co-author with Julie Anderson of the soon-to-be released Men's Violence Against Women: Theory, Research, Activism.
Drawing on his background as a professional stand-up comedian, Kilmartin wrote a solo theatre performance on men's issues titled Crimes Against Nature, which he has performed at over 200 colleges and other venues.
While at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, Kilmartin will present Using Comedy to Present Difficult Subjects to Students during Faculty Forum at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center, and A Social Norms Intervention for Male Sexism at a Psychology Colloquium at 4 p.m. in Phillips Lecture Hall in Hoyt Science Resources Center.
