Dr. Bryan Rennie, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of religion and Vira I. Heinz chair of the Department of Religion, History, Philosophy and Classics, has been published in The Bulletin of the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion (Sept. 2007).
"Drawing the Theorists' Eye: Comparison as Conclusion in the Case of Mircea Eliade" is Rennie's third publication with The Bulletin and the first in that journal on Mircea Eliade. His previous articles were "Zoroastrianism: The Iranian Roots of Christianity?" (Feb. 2007) and "The View of the Invisible World: An Elaboration on Ninian Smart's Analysis of the Dimensions of Religion and of Religious Experience" (1999).
The Eliade article was contributed by invitation to a special edition devoted to Eliade on the 100th anniversary of his birth. The issue was guest edited by Kirstine Munk of Denmark and included articles by scholars from Germany, Finland, Japan, Sweden, and the U.S.
"It was a great honor to be counted among such an international array of established scholars and a pleasure to be able to place the name of ¾¨Ó㴫ý alongside these other institutions," Rennie said. "The Bulletin, published quarterly, is one of the oldest publications in the field of religious studies and has one of the largest circulations of any periodical in the discipline."
Rennie has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 1994. He earned his undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
