Groups to Participate in Women's Choral Festival

Posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Women's Chorus and Women's Chamber Ensemble will participate in a Women's Choral Festival Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh.

"The festival is not a competition nor an adjudication," said Mr. Kris Harper, director of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý groups. "The purpose is to learn from listening to each other, to share repertoire, and to expand the goals of the individual choirs. It will be a day of enjoying the beauty of women's voices."

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Women's Chorus and Women's Chamber Ensemble will perform three selections from "The Rose Trilogy" by Eleanor Daley; "I'm Gonna Wait on the Lord" by Damon H. Dandridge; "El Noi de la Mare" ("The Son of Mary") a traditional Catalan carol arranged by Paul Carrey and featuring soloist Christina Commisso; and "Three Songs of Light" by Srul Irving Glick with Kevin Shields playing alto saxophone. Accompanist is Sheila Barnhart.

Commisso is a senior Spanish major from Pittsburgh and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School.

Shields is a junior music education major from Eldred and a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School.

Barnhart is a senior music performance major from New Freeport and a graduate of West Greene High School.

Other participating colleges include the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Seton Hill College, and Chatham College.
