¾¨Ó㴫ý's Mathematics and Computer Science Department held its annual awards banquet and Kappa Mu Epsilon induction April 3 in the Witherspoon Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.
The induction ceremony for Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, was led by the organization's officers and Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics and the group's adviser. The eight inductees are: William Altenhof, Lauren Graeser, Kaitlyn McConville, Gregory McCullough, Stephen Rossi, April Scudere, Stephen Wheeler, and Sarah Woodward.
Kappa Mu Epsilon officers are: Nicole Panza, president; Larissa Fortna, vice president; Dana Larson, secretary; Alison McNary, treasurer; and Brandon Phillian, publicity chair.
Alice Otto, a 1966 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate, was guest speaker. She paid tribute to J. Miller Peck, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics emeritus, as an educator and a visionary in the development of computer science as a major at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.
The first J. Miller Peck scholarship in computer science was awarded to Andrew Slane, a senior computer science major from New Wilmington.
Graduating seniors were recognized, and departmental scholarships and awards were presented by department faculty.
