Choruses to Present Spring Concert

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus will present their "Spring Sing" concert Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program for the Women's Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Kris Harper, ¾¨Ó㴫ý adjunct music faculty, will include "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel, arranged by Kirby Shaw; "Never Grow Old" from Quilters by Barbara Damshek; and "She Weeps over Rahoon" by Eric Whitacre, featuring oboist Jennie Smith.

The Women's Chorus program will include "Wayfaring Stranger," a spiritual arranged by James Marvin. Their portion of the program will conclude with three maritime folk songs arranged by Ruth Watson Henderson: "Johnny's Gone A-Sailing," featuring soloist Katie Schroll; "When I was in My Prime" with soloist Amanda Ehrhardt; and "Nell Flaherty's Drake." Smith will provide oboe accompaniment.

The Men's Chorus is under the direction of Dr. Robin Lind, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of music and director of choral activities. Their presentation will include: "Precious Lord, What a Friend" arranged by Patsy Ford Simms; "Come Sing to Me of Heaven," a traditional song arranged by J. Aaron McDermid; "Im Sommer" ("In Summer") by Hugo Wolf; and "The Chordbuster March" by W. A. Wyatt.

The combined choirs will close the program with "The Battle of Jericho" arranged by Moses Hogan; and "The Heavens are Telling" from The Creation by Joseph Haydn, featuring soprano Karen Biddle, tenor Kurt Giammattei, bass Stephen Sumpter, and pianist Sheila Barnhart.

Barnhart is accompanist for the Women's Chorus, and Kevin Shields accompanies the Men's Chorus.

Lind, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2000, earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho, master's from the University of Oregon, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.

Harper earned his undergraduate degree from ¾¨Ó㴫ý and master's from Youngstown State University.
