Thirteen ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics students and four faculty attended the annual meeting of the Allegheny Mountain Section of the Mathematical Association of America April 11-12 at the University of Pittsburgh.
Three senior mathematics majors gave presentations at the meeting: Alison McNary spoke about "Infinity and Beyond;" Andrew Polack's topic was "NURBS Curve Interpolation of Artistic Data;" and Randy Sylvester asked "Is Your Favorite Pitcher Going to Have a Winning Season?"
Additional ¾¨Ó㴫ý students attending were: Bryan Bischof, Ryan Brolley, John Cochran, Anthony Colwell, Courtney Herdt, Benjamin Jarrett, Gregory McCullough, Jared Ronan, Megan Sherry, and Patrick Zehnder.
Dr. Barbara Faires, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics, chaired the Teaching Award committee and completed an eight-year term as one of the coordinators for the Section NExT program.
Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics, organized the student program for the meeting.
Dr. Pamela Richardson, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics, spoke at the Section NExT program, a program for new faculty in the section.
Dr. Warren Hickman, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics, coordinated thhe ¾¨Ó㴫ý student participation.
