Mathematics Faculty Attended Joint Meetings

Five ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics and computer science faculty attended the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America Jan. 5-8 in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Carolyn Cuff, professor and chair of ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and 1978 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate, moderated the Special Interest Group in Statistics Education panel on "Hiring, Tenuring, and Promoting Statisticians in a Mathematics Department." She is past chair of the group, which also convened at the joint meeting.

Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz and Dr. Pamela Richardson, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professors of mathematics, served as judges for the Undergraduate Research Poster Session. Both are New Experiences in Teaching (NExT) Fellows, a program that supports faculty development at the national level through workshops and special sessions at the mathematics meetings.

Dr. Barbara Faires, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics, is chair of the national nominating and Gung & Hu Award committees, which met at the joint meeting.

Dr. John Bonomo, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of computer science, also attended the sessions.
