Three ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics students participated in the 69th annual Putnam Examination held Dec. 6 on campus.
Sponsored locally by ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Mathematics and Computer Science Department, the exam was proctored by Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics.
The Putnam Exam is a challenging individual mathematical test taken by thousands of undergraduate students in the U.S. and Canada each year. The five highest-ranking individuals are designated Putnam Fellows by the Mathematical Association of America. Test results are expected in late March.
¾¨Ó㴫ý students who participated this year are:
James Bryan, a senior mathematics major, is a son of Leigh Bryan-Taylor and James Bryan, both of Greensburg. He is a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School.
Richard Ligo, a sophomore mathematics major, is a son of Jesse and Amy Ligo of Mercer and a graduate of Mercer Area High School.
John-Tyler Soltys, a sophomore mathematics and physics major, is a son of Gary and Lucinda Soltys of Latrobe and a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School.
