A Service of Remembrance in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held Sunday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Wallace Memorial Chapel. The worship service is open to the public.
Special guest speaker is Dr. Curtis R. Lewis Sr., minister of music at the Church in the Round in Aliquippa, who will deliver "Martin Luther King Jr. - His Purpose."
A former gospel organist for Motown Records in Detroit, Lewis has trained many local, community, church, and college choirs including The Pittsburgh Believers' Choir and the Pittsburgh 250th Birthday Celebration Choir. In 2001, he was appointed dean of instructions for the International Music Department for the Church of God in Christ, Inc. In 2005, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Lewis' education includes training at the Cass Tech School of Performing Arts, LaSalle College in Chicago, and the New York State University.
¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty and staff participating in the service include President Dr. Richard Dorman, who will give the welcome; the Rev. Jeannette Hubbard, director of the Office of Diversity Services, who will offer prayers for the community; Kathryn Davison Miller, College organist; and the Rev. James Mohr, College chaplain, who will give the benediction.
Music will be provided by ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Gospel Choir, under the direction of Manny Henderson, and the Chapel Praise Team. Student liturgists will lead the call to worship, prayers, and litany of celebration.
