¾¨Ó㴫ý Offers Spring Continuing Education Classes

¾¨Ó㴫ý announces several personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents. Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals. Formal admission to ¾¨Ó㴫ý is not required.

Personal fitness classes are scheduled in four sessions: Session A runs from Jan. 26 through Feb. 21; session B runs from Feb. 23 through March 21; session C runs from March 23 through April 25; and session D runs from April 27 through May 23. Classes are held in the dance studio in Old 77.

Pilates-based matwork emphasizes quality over quantity to leave every muscle feeling stretched, strengthened, and massaged. Classes will be held Tuesdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m., during all sessions.

Hatha Yoga emphasizes non-competitive awareness of the body through gentle and more difficult poses (asanas) with the breath (prana) being the guide to advancement. Classes will be held Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m., during all sessions.

Iyengar-based Yoga focuses on alignment and stability in each pose (asana), with props and modifications of poses utilized to build strength, balance, and flexibility. Restorative poses for relaxation are also taught. Classes will be held Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m., during all sessions.

Kickboxing is a new addition this semester and will be held Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., during all sessions. The class is designed to give beginners a great workout and introduce them to basic fitness kickboxing moves.

Zumba is another new offering this year and will be held Saturdays, 10-11 a.m., during all sessions. Zumba routines fuse musical rhythms and moves to create a dynamic workout that integrates fast and slow rhythms.

Line dancing will be held Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19, and 26, 6-7 p.m.

Computer classes are designed to meet the needs of the beginner to the accomplished user. All computer classes are hands-on workshops and are held in room 214 of Patterson Hall, unless otherwise noted.

My Computer is Slow-Help!, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, 5-7 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room of the McKelvey Campus Center, will cover factors that contribute to a computer's sluggish performance.

Introduction to Computers runs Tuesday-Thursday, Feb. 17-19, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. is a great starting place for beginners. Learn to manage computer files; set the mouse and keyboard to suit individual preferences; use pull-down menus; and explore the functions available.

Getting Started with Word 2007 is scheduled Tuesday-Wednesday, March 3-4, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This course is designed for experienced Word users who have worked with earlier versions of Microsoft Office Word, ideally Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Protecting Your PC against Viruses, Spyware & Hackers is a new, seminar-style class scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, from 5-7 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room and explains how these threats can compromise a computer's operation and security.

Introduction to Excel 2007 is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, March 9 and 11, from 5-7 p.m. Learn to use the newest version of the program to "browse, pick, and click."

Creating a Safe Environment for Your Kids to Travel in Cyberspace, another new seminar-style class, is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, from 5-7 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room. Practical strategies for parents and teachers will be discussed for protecting children from online predators and viewing inappropriate material.

Microsoft Excel II 2007 is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, March 16 and 18, from 5-7 p.m. Learn to make the most of Excel's useful, efficiency-boosting, time-saving features and functions.

Introduction to Access 2007 is scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, March 24-26, from 5-7 p.m. Learn to create databases and tables to store and manipulate data and build queries to select specific fields and records.

Intermediate Access 2007 is scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, March 31-April 2, from 5-7 p.m. Learn advanced query techniques; how to join multiple tables; create and use customized forms and reports; and import and export data using different file formats.

Powerpoint 2007 is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, April 20 and 22, from 5-7 p.m. Learn to include clip art, graphs, tables, and charts to create effective, professional-looking presentations.

Microsoft Publisher 2007 is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, April 27 and 29, from 5-7 p.m. Learn to create high-impact publications such as newsletters, business cards, calendars, invitations, greeting cards, and more.

Personal enrichment classes include four offerings this semester:

Calligraphy will be held Mondays, Feb. 9 and 16, and March 2 and 9, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room. Basic lettering and techniques will be taught, as well as different styles of lettering and text work.

Works of Scherenschnitte will be held Wednesdays, March 11, 25, and April 1 and 8, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room. Learn to use a blade for this style of paper cutting based on the German art form "scherenschnitte."

And Leadership for All will be held Mondays, March 2 and 9, from 7-9 p.m. in room 213 of Old Main. This course provides an overview of the vast body of leadership principals and applications in today's organizational environment.

Leadership for Lasting Change is scheduled for Mondays, March 23 and 30, from 7-9 p.m. in room 213 of Old Main. This courses explores the impact leadership has on others and leadership creates lasting change.
