Dr. Sherri Pataki, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of psychology and coordinator of ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Peace Studies program, will speak on "Peaceful Coexistence in Northern Ireland" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.
Pataki attended a week-long international summer school program held at the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE) at the University of Ulster. INCORE, established in 1993, is a joint project of the United Nations University and the University of Ulster. It combines research, education, and comparative analysis to address the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and internationally, and promotes conflict resolution management strategies.
Pataki was among 42 participants from 15 countries who attended the 2008 program.
"I truly valued the opportunity to meet and speak with people directly involved in the peace-building process in Northern Ireland, as well as people who are actively engaged in conflict zones around the world," Pataki said. "It was amazing to hear firsthand experiences and insight from many courageous and inspiring people."
Pataki, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2004, earned an undergraduate degree from Allegheny College and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
