Orchestra Concert to Feature Concerto and Aria Competition Winners

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Symphony Orchestra will present its Classical Series Concert III Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature soprano soloist Karen Biddle as Mimi in "Quando men vo" from Puccini's La Boheme. Biddle is from the studio of Dr. Anne Hagan Bentz, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of music.

Oboe soloist Jennie Smith will be featured in Horovitz' Oboe Concerto. Smith studies oboe with Shawn Reynolds, ¾¨Ó㴫ý adjunct music faculty.

Biddle and Smith were the winners of the Concerto and Aria Competition sponsored by ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Department of Music in March.

The program also includes Sibelius' Finlandia and Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World."

The Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Jonathan Moser, ¾¨Ó㴫ý instructor of music and director of orchestras.

Moser, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2005, earned an undergraduate degree from Shenandoah University and a master's from Arizona State University.
