¾¨Ó㴫ý will host Girls Fight Back, a national tour of women's safety seminars, Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.

The event, sponsored by Armstrong Cable, is free and open to all women.

Girls Fight Back was founded by Erin Weed, a self-defense and violence prevention expert, in 2001, following the murder of a college friend. She created the 90-minute program to empower women through personal safety and self-defense techniques.

One of Weed's key messages is motivating young women to respect their own intuition and self esteem as tools that can help save their lives. "My goal with each session is to teach women how to be 'bad victims.' Backing away from a person or situation that makes you uneasy is okay. You need to believe in yourself to fight for yourself."

In addition to the seminars, Weed has written Girls Fight Back: The College Girl's Guide to Protecting Herself and has released a DVD seminar with the same techniques that are taught in the live seminars.
