Four ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics faculty attended the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Jan. 13-16 in San Francisco.
Dr. Carolyn Cuff, professor and chair of ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and 1978 ¾¨Ó㴫ý graduate, led "Teaching Introductory Statistics," a pre-meeting workshop sponsored by the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education.
Cuff, who joined the ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty in 1989, earned a master's and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz and Dr. Pamela Richardson, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professors, presented "A Revamped Problem-Solving Competition" in an MAA special session on math club activities. Richardson also served on an AMS focus group on conferences.
Fontes-Merz, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2004, earned an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and a master's and Ph.D. from Kent State University.
Richardson, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2006, earned an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
Dr. David Offner, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor, organized a panel discussion on undergraduate research and participated in other activities for new faculty as a 2009-2010 Project NeXT Fellow. He also served as a judge for the Undergraduate Research Poster Session.
Offner, who joined the ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty in 2009, earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
