Twelve ¾¨Ó㴫ý students and four mathematics faculty attended the annual regional Student Paper Meeting Feb. 26 at Youngstown (Ohio) State University.
The meeting, hosted by the Ohio XI Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society, gave undergraduate students the opportunity to listen to topics of interest to other undergraduates and to present results of their projects and research.
¾¨Ó㴫ý sophomore mathematics and philosophy major Gregory Clark presented "Tesselations: Properties and Periodicity." Sophomore computer science and mathematics major Jenna Huston presented "Friendly Partitions of Graphs." Both students are advised by Dr. David Offner, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics, who accompanied the group.
In a special session dedicated to Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP) competitors, Clark, Huston, senior mathematics major Joshua Glasser, and freshman mathematics major Amber Hill discussed their participation in the Mathematical Modeling Contest with teams from other schools.
Additional ¾¨Ó㴫ý students who attended were: Casandra Aponte, Christina Erceg, Andrew Kieffer, Andrew Kyrargyros, Jaclyn Miller, Domenic Neely, Hannah Raihall, and Daniel Rutkowski.
In addition to Offner, ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics faculty who attended were: Dr. Jeffrey Boerner, assistant professor; Dr. Carolyn Cuff, professor; and Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, associate professor.
Funding support for the conference was provided by the National Science Foundation Regional Mathematics Conferences grant committee.
