The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Symphonic Band will perform a concert Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.
"The program consists of a variety of established band works as well as new compositions," said Dr. Tad Greig, director of bands at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. "The established works include Norman Dello Joio's Satiric Dances,' and Rex Mitchell's Introduction and Fantasia.' Rex is an Erie resident and retired music faculty member from Clarion University.
"New works include Grant them Eternal Rest,' a composition from Andew Boysen Jr., dedicated to those who lost loved ones and in their memory on September 11. It is an instrumental work in the setting of a Mass.
"The band will also perform Vesuvius' from the pen of Frank Ticheli," Greig added. "As one might imagine, the work features a flurry of powerful rhythm from both the percussion and winds. No concert is truly complete without a march, and the ensemble has chosen John Phillip Sousa's Gallant Seventh.'"
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Greig at (724) 946-7279 or e-mail greigrk@westminser.edu.
