Posted on Wednesday, April 27, 2011

¾¨Ó㴫ý secondary education minors conducted "March Madness: A Family Literacy Event" March 29 at Campbell (Ohio) Middle School that was attended by more than 140 students and parents.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý students are from the secondary education literacy class "Reading in the Content Area" taught by Shannon Liposky, ¾¨Ó㴫ý adjunct faculty in education.

The evening's activities included instruction in three literacy strategies that could be used in many content areas.  ¾¨Ó㴫ý students were responsible for planning and teaching Cubing, SQ3R, and Word Splash strategies to small groups of middle school students.  Snacks and a prize drawing followed the instruction session.

Dr. Eileen Morelli, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of education who has experience organizing a number of literacy events, assisted Liposky and her students with the planning.

Each Campbell student received two books provided through funding from ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was created to enrich undergraduate education at ¾¨Ó㴫ý through advancing world-class teaching as well as by participating in collaborations that address community and regional needs including strengthening K-12 education.  Visit for more information about the Drinko Center and its programs.
