Three ¾¨Ó㴫ý mathematics majors and their adviser attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) regional conference and exposition Oct. 19-21 in Atlantic City, N.J.
Dr. David Offner, ¾¨Ó㴫ý assistant professor of mathematics, accompanied the students:

Senior Coty Hainsey is a son of Allen and Bonnie Hainsey of New Paris and a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School.

The students were exposed to a wide range of information about the mathematics teaching profession. They attended sessions on teaching specific topics in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus and using technology and manipulatives in the classroom. Other sessions focused on the new Common Core standards for mathematics education being adopted nationwide and a session specifically designed for those entering the profession.
NCTM is the premiere national organization for mathematics teachers. The Atlantic City conference drew more than 3,100 educators to network and discuss the latest topics in mathematics education.
